Chinese Teahouse was built to promote Chinese Culture. Putonghua remains a compulsory subject for junior secondary students. In addition, student interest in language learning is promoted through a wide range of activities, including English morning assemblies, lunchtime and after-school English activities, Chinese and English debate competitions, writing contests in both languages, submissions to newspapers, the publication of students’ writing anthologies and school newsletters, extensive reading schemes in Chinese and English, holiday reading reward schemes, online reading programs, participation in the Hong Kong Speech Festival, and holiday English enhancement courses.
